Date: Sept. 5, 2004
Location: Denver, CO
The group met Sunday at around 10:00 a.m. (MST) after some much needed sacktime. The plan for the day was to visit the Coors Brewery, but little did they know that the brew house would be closed that day, due to its Sundayness. Tim was a little disappointed, but he knew that there was still beer to be had. There were also malls to be perused and festivals to be walked. A day on their feet was about to commence.
Fresh Beer Supposedly Tastes Better
Stevo, Stef, and Tim grabbed a table at Sam's #3, a diner-style restaurant across the street from Stevo's apartment. The trio agreed that lunch was quite tasty. They headed to exchange a shirt the Denistons' mother had purchased and Tim found a sweatshirt he liked. He wanted one as a souvenier and to keep him warm while at Pike's Peak the following day. The Denistons performed an action that their father had done many times before when they passed up on the sweatshirt, saying, "Well, we know it's here." They meandered throughout the mall and found some things here and there that they liked, but nothing that they felt they should purchase. The next stop was A Taste of Denver...
"After some beer, a few laughs, and some crazy spinning martial arts, we began to trek around the celebration. Stevo was looking for a booth with some cool paintings he had seen during our last visit. Derek found a backpack vendor who had a hiking bag for only $30. It didn't have an aluminum frame like the one he bought earlier in the day (to go along with his new tent), but it seemed big enough and the price was right. At the same place, I found a sweet one-strap bookbag for $10. We will have to see whether or not the quality of the bag will hold up. "
Cheap Is as Cheap Does
It would eventually be proven that Tim's purchase was worth exactly what he paid for it. That realization comes, however, many months after this odyssey comes to a close.
Steve could not find the booth he was seeking, so he took note of a few art booths that he found interesting and the group headed back to Stevo's apartment. Derek and Jen took off to get cleaned up and to rest a bit. Stevo remembered that it was Sunday and that he and Tim should get back to the t-shirt store to purchase the sweatshirt. They made their way back to the store and found that it had closed already despite the thousands of shoppers still milling about in the mall. To counter this disappointment, Stevo, Stef, and Tim went back to A Taste of Denver for some ice cream. Stevo randomly found the art place he had seen before an picked out a few prints he liked. The African-inspired prints featured jazz musicians and instruments. The three made their way back to Stevo's apartment and ordered Vietnamese takeout. Derek and Jen came over and they all watched Swingers. Everyone fell asleep at some point except Tim, who had never seen the movie before. As Derek and Jen left, Tim waved to them from the balcony of Stevo's apartment. They waved back.

Journey Home This is a tale of courage, caffeine, and camping. On September
1st, 2004, Derek Lindes and Timothy Deniston embarked on the journey
of lifetime. In a rusted manual sedan, the two of them set off for
Denver, CO in search of fun, lodging, and a good time. Whether their
quest manifested itself to their liking is at this point unknown.
Read on to experience their adventures throughout the Midwest and
Great Plains.... |
Day One Day 1 began bright and early at 6:00 a.m. (EDT) when Tim
woke up and began gathering up the things he would need on the trip.
The day didn't begin for Derek until 9:00 a.m. (EDT) when Tim called
and woke him up. The original plan was to be out of the apartment
and on the road by 10:00 a.m. (EDT) so the travellers would hit
St. Louis.... |

Day Two For our weary travellers, Day 2 began exactly as Day 1 ended.
In fact, neither of our journeymen even noticed the transition between
the two. At this point, Derek is asleep in the passenger's seat,
with his head bouncing up and down, as Tim is at the helm eating
sunflower seeds.... |
Day Three As Tim noted at the end of yesterday's Captain's Log, Friday would be spent at Red Rocks. Though, as you will see, not all of it. Our weary travellers, in much need of sleep, did not get to linger in slumber on the morning of the third. Instead, they rose promptly at the crack of 9:00 a.m. (MST) and began preparing for a trip to.... |

Day Four The fearless travellers had spent three days in the cold, then warm, then cold again grip of pre-Continental Divide Colorado. The travellers from Ohio had not quite completed half of their odyssey, yet they felt like they had taken in so much. Since this was not Derek's first trip to the Denver area, he was not in constant amazement as Tim was, but the Odyssean Duo would strive onward, not letting their lack of energy drag them down....

Day Five The group met Sunday at around 10:00 a.m. (MST) after some much needed sacktime. The plan for the day was to visit the Coors Brewery, but little did they know that the brew house would be closed that day, due to its Sundayness. Tim was a little disappointed, but he knew that there was still beer to be had.... |
